I don't live in a participating city - can i still apply?
YES!
If your city is listed on our website, you may register.
If Your Shot does not visit your city in 2027 your expression of interest will be saved so we can notify you when it's your turn!
I was a past Your Shot Contestant in previous years. Am I allowed to enter again in 2027?
NO!
Unfortunately we do not accept past Contestants as there are thousands of people who want to take part year on year. You only get one shot, so make the most of it!
i made a mistake on my SELECTION form - what now?
If it’s critical you may register again i.e. email / mobile number.
If not, we can update it at Selection Day.
what does the training involve?
The training course involves a 3 hour in-person tutorial each week for 5 consecutive weeks.
The training course is designed to teach even those with zero experience, the fundamentals of DJing.
It covers all the essentials to get you confidently up on stage at the Event Weekend.
WHAT do i need to be available for if selected?
You will need to be available for:
2. Your allocated training time
3. Fortnightly meetings (4 in total)
4. The Event Weekend in your city
Attendance is 100% mandatory - failure to comply will result in your immediate withdrawal from the competition.
what if i can't attend SELECTION day?
Unfortunately due to time constraints and the volume of people that need to be interviewed, there can only be one Selection Day in each city which must be attended for a chance to move onto the next stage of the competition.

DO i need to own any DJ gear to join?
NO!
At The Academy, Your Shot will provide an XDJ-RX3 per person & headphones to practice on during your 3 hour class.
You will however need access to a laptop or computer to download and analyse music as there will be basic take home tasks to get you prepped for your upcoming DJ set.
I Just Want To Learn A New Skill And Have Some Fun, Is That Okay?
YES!
Everyone's motivations for why they sign up to Your Shot are different.
If you just want to make some friends, try something new, push yourself out of your comfort zone, you should apply!
However, all applicants should be willing to commit to the entire experience which means attending Selection Day, attending all training sessions and of course performing at the Event Weekend.
I Work Full Time, Can I Still Enter?
YES, ABSOLUTELY!
You just need to be available for the following:
- Selection Day in your state
- Your allocated 3-hour training session each week (weekend and evening classes available!)
- Four weeknight group meetings (fortnightly within the training period) (dates provided in advance)
- Your state’s Event Weekend
That's it!
Do I Need To Be 18+ To Enter?
Yes. You must be 18 or older by the time of your city's Selection Day.
Who Receives Training?
All selected Contestants get:
- 1 x 3-hour session per week for 5 weeks.
- Training is in-person, at your local Academy.
- Weekend and evening classes are available!
Who Can Apply?
Your Shot is designed for absolute beginners—so if you have ZERO to VERY LITTLE DJ experience and are 18 years or older by your city's Selection Day, you’re eligible to apply!
To qualify, you should be at a level where a beginner’s DJ course would seriously boost your skills.
For example, if you’re excited to learn things like:
- Beatmatching
- Transitioning between tracks
- Using effects & the controller
- Downloading, analysing music, and planning a set
…then Your Shot is for YOU!
Even if you’ve played a few house parties or taught yourself the basics but still have a lot to learn - you’re still eligible to apply.
However, if you’re already comfortable performing full DJ sets using USBs/Rekordbox on CDJs/Controllers and have experience playing club gigs, your skill level is too advanced for this competition.
Please note: There will be no Wild Card Category in 2027 and past Contestants are not eligible to apply.
What Is Selection Day?
Selection Day is a fun, laid-back event held once a year in each participating state. It’s free to attend, and you’re welcome to bring friends along for support (18+).
If you want to be part of Your Shot, attending your state’s Selection Day is a must.
It’s a chance for the Your Shot Team to meet you, hear why you’re excited to join, and see if you’re ready to dive into the experience.
You’ll have a quick, one-on-one chat with a team member - nothing to stress about! It’s just a vibe check to make sure you’re keen and ready to give it your all!
You are free to leave once your interview is over but you can stick around to network / enjoy some drinks!
How Do I Get Selected?
Step 1. Submit your info HERE.
Step 2. Attend your city's Selection Day (all you have to do is show up!)
Successful applicants will be notified via email & text after Selection Day, same day.
You can also get Pre-Selected BEFORE Selection Day, meaning you’ll have a secure spot into Your Shot 2027.
I Have Never DJ'd Before, Can I Still Enter?
YES. That’s exactly who this is for.
Once selected, you’ll receive 5 weeks of FULL DJ training, where you’ll learn everything you need to step confidently onto the stage and play your first set!
What Is Your Shot?
Your Shot gives people with LITTLE to NO DJ experience the opportunity to learn to DJ and become part of one of the world’s largest music communities.
Applicants register online and attend their city's Selection Day to get selected. Selected Contestants will receive 5 weeks in person DJ training at The Academy in their city, where they’ll learn all the fundamentals of DJing and put together their first ever DJ set.
Following their 5 weeks of training, each Contestant will perform for the very first time at a sold out, 2-day Event Weekend in their city, competing for the major prize.
The winner from each city earns the opportunity of a lifetime: a performance at one of the world's biggest international music festivals and/or an unforgettable global music experience.
